BIO 121 - Insect Empire


4 credits
This course is designed to introduce non-biology majors to the wonderful world of bugs, and how these six-legged creatures influence humans and shape societies. Topics include bizarre bugs, bad bugs, good bugs, killer bugs, delicious bugs, and bug guts (i.e., insect diversity, insect-human interactions, insect-plant mutualisms, and insect anatomy and physiology). Emphasis will be placed on interpreting and evaluating information in primary, secondary, and popular scientific literature. Labs will provide an introduction to the scientific method and data analysis through studies of insects. This course is not applicable to the biology major/minor. 3 hrs lec, 2 hrs lab.​
