HIS 352 - Islam and the Middle East 3 credits A study of the origins, teachings and spread of Islam. In this course we will trace the development of the Islamic concepts of political and religious power from the 7th c. AD through the early 2000s. We will also explore the social, cultural, and intellectual history of the region (modern Middle East) to better understand how the Middle East came to be what it is today and how the relationship between those states and others are shaped by their interactions with one another. We will approach our study through primary sources, scholarship, and material culture.
Term Offered: Rotational Basis General Education: This course meets the general education History requirement and the Intercultural Knowledge and Competence requirement.
