MUS 310 - Materials of Twentieth-Century Music


3 credits
A detailed study of the theory and history of twentieth-century art music.  Beginning with the chromatic harmony and extended tonality of the late Romantics the course will cover topics including Impressionism, Neo-Classicism, Atonality, Serialism, and aleatoric procedures, as well as more recent trends.  The course will feature intense score analysis and written theory exercises meant to give students a practical understanding of the diverse means of musical expression developed over the course of the century.
